Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's first Cabinet

The Cabinet of Malaysia is the executive branch of the Government of Malaysia. Led by the Prime Minister, the cabinet is a council of ministers who are accountable collectively to the Parliament.

Formally, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong appoints all Ministers on the advice of the Prime Minister.

The composition of the Cabinet and the number of portfolios depend mainly on the Prime Minister's wishes at the time. However, the post of Finance Minister (not Finance Malaysia ya 😛) was considered so important as to be necessary.

And, here is the complete list of cabinet ministers
(and with some of our own comments/opinions):

Prime Minister and Finance Minister
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim
(this is a bit surprising albeit the painful 1MDB saga, which was partially caused by the then DS Najib Razak holdings in both PM and FM portfolios)

Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister
Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi
(no doubt, this is one of the most controversial posts being announced because you know, I know, everyone knows... 😑😑😑)

Deputy Prime Minister and Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister
Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof
(this was expected because one DPM post was promised to be given to the Borneo side and DS Fadillah is a very experienced guy)

Transport Minister
Anthony Loke
(previously appointed to the same post, which received good comments, the head of DAP now is an excellent fit to helm the portfolio to 'finish his unfinished businesses')

Agriculture and Food Security Minister
Mohamad Sabu

International Trade and Industry Minister
Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz
(Honestly, this is a bit surprising. Tengku Zafrul was finance minister under two previous prime ministers, namely Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as well as Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. After losing in the GE15, Tengku Zafrul will be back as a senator once again.)

Local Government Development Minister
Nga Kor Ming

Health Minister
Dr Zaliha Mustafa

Defence Minister
Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan
(Familiarly known as Tok Mat, who has served as Deputy Chairman of the Barisan Nasional and Deputy President of UMNO, will be back to helm one of the key portfolios now)

Higher Education Minister
Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin
(One of the top 5 of UMNO)

Education Minister
Fadhlina Sidek
(From PKR, she will be handling one of the most difficult portfolios here... hmmm...)

Economic Affairs Minister
Rafizi Ramli
(I think he is one of the technocrats that we are searching for in the new cabinet)

Communications and Digital Minister
Fahmi Fadzil
(another up-and-rising figure from PKR, Fahmi could bring in some new ideas)

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform)
Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said
(as expected and she is a very capable person to helm this post again)

Science and Technology Minister
Chang Lih Kang

Home Minister
Saifuddin Nasution Ismail
(if Tengku Zafrul can be a senator once again, why not the close associate of PM Anwar?)

Women, Family and Community Development Minister
Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister
Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub

Works Minister
Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi

Environment and Climate Change Minister
Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad

Entrepeneur Development and Cooperatives Minister
Ewon Benedick

Foreign Minister
Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir

Tourism Minister
Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing
(another minister from Sarawak, maybe this arrangement could spur the tourism industry of Borneo)

National Unity Minister
Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs)
Datuk Dr Na'im Mokhtar

Youth and Sports Minister
Hannah Yeoh
(Instead of getting the women & family portfolio, Hannah now could encourage more female athletes to excel 😀)

Minister in Prime Minister's Department (Sabah Sarawak Affairs)
Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali

Human Resources Minister
V. Sivakumar
