The long-awaited Gig Workers Bill, touted as the world’s first dedicated legislation for the gig economy, has been delayed yet again — this time for the 3rd time.

Initially set for its first reading in Parliament on 14 August 2025, the postponement comes despite assurances just a week earlier from Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Human Resources Minister Steven Sim at the Sembang Santai Teh Tarik: Industri Gig session.

No official explanation has been provided, leaving gig workers, platforms, and industry players in limbo.

Fresh from taking full control of Empire Resorts Inc, Genting Malaysia Berhad (GENM) has announced a strategic transaction worth US$525 million (RM2.2 billion) to unlock value and strengthen its capital structure.

The move involves selling Empire’s non-gaming assets in New York — including two hotels, a golf course, an event centre, and restaurants — to Sullivan County Resort Facilities Local Development Corporation (SCRFLDC).

Sapura Energy change its name to Vantris Energy: Why called Vantris?

Sapura Energy Berhad has officially changed its name to Vantris Energy Berhad (Vantris Energy), to reflect the cumulative effort the company has made in its corporate transformation. This follows shareholder approval at an Extraordinary General Meeting held on 30 July 2025.

In a separate EGM on the same day, shareholders also overwhelmingly approved the company’s Proposed Regularisation Plan - a key step in its financial and operational turnaround.

Note: Under the regularisation plan, Vantris Energy will perform a 99.99% capital reduction to offset accumulated losses, along with a 20-to-one share consolidation.
